The texture of Europe is so rich that it can be overwhelming. The buildings, even the plowed fields, seem to have been there forever and carry the patina of time. One of the reasons I like to paint on location in Europe is that it forces you to stay still, to observe closely where you are. Suddenly you see and understand the complexity of the scene before your eyes.
